The Vices
This is the introductory panel for a series titled The Vices, which hangs in a philanthropic foundation in Washington, D.C. Painted in egg tempera and gold leaf on gessoed wood, the series was conceived as a polyptych and was executed at the American Academy in Rome, where I was a visiting artist. The images evolved from my research of medieval morality plays and early Italian Renaissance painting of the virtues and vices. I used the architecture of Rome as my backdrop but set the scenes in a contemporary context.
